Ingrid
Olfenbuttel, age 63, of Upper Arlington, passed away on September 20,
after fighting a challenging battle with pancreatic cancer. She remained
strong and beautiful as she passed peacefully at home, surrounded by
family. Born
in Emden, Germany, on October 29, 1938, she was
the youngest of five siblings and grew up during WWII on the
North Sea island of Borkum.
After extensive travel in Europe, she attended university in
Madrid, Spain and later came to the United States.
In 1969, she met Robert Olfenbuttel and they were married in
January of 1970. After
Robert’s retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Upper Arlington
and Ingrid lovingly made this new place “home”. She returned to
banking in 1990, first with Century Bank and than by proudly helping to
open and work for the Arlington Bank. After helping hundred’s of
customers, she retired in 2000 and enjoyed gardening, rescuing stray
animals, antiquing, and helping her daughters decorate their homes. She
is preceded by her parents Astrid and Horst Kessler. She is survived by
her caring husband Robert, her daughters Astrid and Colleen, sisters
Astrid Flanders of Michigan and Helga Franssen of Germany, brothers Udo
Kessler of Florida and Rolf Kessler of Germany, and several nieces and
nephews whom she showered with children’s books and was known as
“The Book Aunt”.
No funeral services will be held, but a private celebration of
her life will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers,
friends may help further research on this little understood cancer by
sending contributions to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN),
2221 Rosecrans Ave., Ste. 131, El Segundo, CA 90245 in her memory.
